A SERIES OF PAINTINGS FROM AN ARCHITECT THAT TOUCHES ON THE TOPIC OF MATERIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND SENTIMENT.

Sentiment is an idea colored by emotion. We all have object of no monetary value that we hold close for reasons of sentiment. All of the objects found in my paintings conjure an emotion in me whether it be happiness at the perfect rusty nail or dismay at seeing waste. To toss something in the garbage means that you wants something out of your life entirely.  So what do you do with objects that you don’t want to throw away? Are they in the bottom of a drawer, sitting on a window sill, or in the depths of a dark closet? If so, why have you kept them? William Morris said, “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." If these objects do not fall in either category please send them to me. I’d love to turn it into something instead of seeing it go in the garbage. I am also available for commissions if you need help finding a place for a sentimental object.

Please come back as I continue to update this site with more work along the way. I hope you enjoyed your experience and leave with a new realization that beauty can be found everywhere in your surroundings. Simply open your eyes and notice. Rethink and reuse. -SE Heller
